Hello everyone! I am unbelievably excited to be Introducing Reinvent, a fully supported nutrition education and lifestyle change programme, to you in this post. I am going to start following this programme as of today, 1st March 2018!
Reinvent is the brainchild of Rosie Letts, a nutritional therapist who has a practice in Bristol.
I met Rosie in January when we attended an event in Bristol, for health and beauty business owners and bloggers. We got chatting about what ‘we do’ her work, my blog and I explained to her all about ‘the challenges!’ which are the basis of my blog ‘ChallengeClare.’
When I started blogging in November last year, I set myself 5 challenges. Just to make life a little bit more interesting, now that my sons are starting to fly the nest! My first challenge is to get ‘fit by 40.’ (You can read more about it here.)
How’s it going?
Honestly? Not well. If you’ve read my updates you’ll see that really, I’ve just been dithering, and not really committing to the process. It is fair to say that I am without any kind of a clear plan or direction!
Not having a clear plan or direction is the root of my problem. I have wasted years, skirting around the issue of losing weight and getting fit. Starting a variety of diets, new exercise regimes or other fitness fads over the years and then just losing interest, and to be honest I’m not really sure why.
There are layers of issues and reasons that are preventing me from making any real progress towards achieving my health and fitness goals. Which was what I explained to Rosie when we met. There was no shock or surprise at what I was telling her, (which was a different perspective!). Only confidence she could help me with my challenge. Exciting Stuff!
Anyway, fast forward a couple of weeks and I met up with Rosie to chat in a bit more detail about what I would like to achieve and how we could work together towards my fit by 40 goal. It was really interesting to explore some of my reasons for wanting to get fitter, but also how I feel about being overweight, and what it is that concerns me about that.
It became clear to me that the thoughts and feelings we discussed and I found difficult to articulate are intrinsically linked to my relationship with food. But, surprisingly, it was the first time I’d considered this in any great depth.
I was intrigued.
A Unique Approach
What also struck me about Rosie was just how unique her approach to food is, there is no one size fits all. She practices nutritional medicine. Viewing food as medicine, her perspective is that we should be ‘eating for our health’ making food choices based on the positive effect they will have on our health and wellbeing.
For me this is a breath of fresh air when compared to mainstream diet programmes like Slimming World and Weight Watchers, both of which I’ve previously had a crack at! These programmes merely focus on weight loss without any real education about nutrition.
They tell you what to do but not why, and they don’t account for the needs of the individual. I know that they work for some people and that’s great. But I’ve found that this approach just doesn’t work for me. I’m always looking for ways to cheat it! Personally, I need a far more holistic approach.
Reinvent: A Holistic Approach
Reinvent is exactly that, a holistic approach to nutritional health and wellbeing.
Rosie’s online programme Reinvent is a ‘fully supported nutrition education and lifestyle change programme.’ It runs for 12 months and during this time you work through 4 distinct but linked phases:
Phase 1, Reinvent: Creating 1 new healthy habit each week before introducing the next. You always have a focus but never feel overwhelmed.
Phase 2, Entwine: A period of reflection and consolidation. To celebrate your achievements and work through any resistance to change.
Phase 3, Create: Having ruled out food intolerances, optimised digestion and corrected any deficiencies, your diet is personalised to suit your unique body and lifestyle.
Phase 4, Embrace: Keeping motivated with weekly live Q&A’s and keeping things fresh with new seasonal recipes so you never get bored.
The idea is that you develop new habits and change your relationship with food permanently. This is not a quick fix solution. It is exactly what I was looking for. A long term programme unique to me that would help me to address my issues relating to food. Providing a solution to address the obstacles I encounter in my quest to get fit by 40.
I’m feeling confident that this is my first step towards a new, fitter and healthier lifestyle.
