FunTimes – The Challenge of Making Time for Fun
Life is overwhelming at times. We have so many responsibilities and so many ‘jobs’ to do that it can be hard to find and make time for fun. In fact planning Funtimes, with a young family can often feel more like a trial than a pleasure! I promise you won’t be the first person to totally lose their rag in the pursuit of a fun family day out!! Is it even a family day out if you don’t have just a teeny bit of conflict?!!
I’ve lost count the amount of times that a day out or getting ready for a holiday has sometimes felt like it was more stress than it was worth. But I promise you, your children will have fond memories and so will you as you sift through your photos with those fabulous rose tinted glasses on, in preparation for their milestone birthdays!
But it’s not just making time for fun with your family that is important. It’s also about making time to have fun with your friends, your partner, your extended family. Making Memories. It’s too easy to find that 6 months, a year has passed without you catching up with people who are important to you.
Timetabling Fun
This sounds absolutely hideous, the idea of ‘booking ‘fun’ into your family calendar sounds like it defeats the object. But, seriously think about giving it a go. This is something that I definitely wish I had done when my boys were younger. I think it would have helped us to make much better use of the time that we had together.
I also wish I’d made more of an effort to spend time with my siblings and friends. Making that time would have made life so much easier because it would have given me an opportunity to recharge
I don’t mean rigidly planning everything, but just making arrangements so that you can actually make the stuff you really want to do happen. Otherwise it’s so easy to leave it to the last minute and it becomes unaffordable and impractical. I know that we could probably have had some much better holidays, if we’d been more organised, saved and prepared. Because when we did we had flipping fab holidays!
I’ve started creating a plan of things that I ‘must’ do and thinks ‘I’d like to’ do’ then I can start trying to make it happen, and it gives me something to look forward to, when I’m having a crappy day!
FunTimes and ChallengeClare
A big part of ChallengeClare is going to be about making time for fun; hobbies, days and nights out, weekend breaks and holidays for little people, teens, couples, large family groups. This is the part of the blog that I am most excited about!
Sharing the experiences of my highs and lows in the battle to have Funtimes, and finding new Funtimes that might just be what you are looking for to share with your nearest and dearest!
As the blog grows I hope to set up groups on social media so that we can build a community that shares and supports each other as we seek out ideas for Funtimes. My challenge at the moment is finding ways of spending time with my pretty much adult sons, my friends with little people and starting to have ‘grown up’ holidays with Mr Challenge now that the boys can look after themselves! What do adults without children do?! I only had one holiday aged 17 before my tribe arrived! So I’m looking forward to working that one out!!
