California Dreaming… Our First Child Free Holiday!
This summer saw myself and Mr Challenge take our first holiday away without the boys ever! Sure, we’d managed a few days here and there over the years, but this was two full weeks away without them in the USA California Dreaming.. Exciting times.
It was a holiday that kind of came about totally by accident. We’d not long moved into our first home and had just got back from a family holiday, it was really not the time to be thinking about more holidays! But a few weeks after our holiday last August we were at a local charity ball.. (Not proper posh, it’s a village event where they put a marquee up inside a cowshed.. Nice dinner, booze, charity auction and dancing to raise some cash for local charities)
Anyway we were three sheets to the wind when the charity auction starts.. Our friend had seen a lot for 10 days accommodation in Mammoth Lakes in California, and asked if we fancied it.. We thought why not?! And so it began… Some other friends were interested so as a group of 4 couples we went for it.. Yep, another ill thought out idea fuelled by wine but hey? Aren’t they just the best? So cut a long story short, we won..
The difficulty was that we didn’t really know what it was that we had won, other than it was a condo in Mammoth Lakes, none of us had a clue about it.. We would have to have a planning meeting!
So, off we all went and started to do a little bit of research and discovered that Mammoth was some way from either San Francisco or LA, and that internal flights were ridiculously expensive, so we would need to drive some distances. We felt it was such a long way to go and seeing as we were going to have to drive anyway, we thought that we really should make a bit of a road trip of it.. Perfect excuse!
So we chose some dates and sketched out an itinerary and a budget…
San Francisco, Yosemite, Mammoth Lakes, Las Vegas
And I volunteered to book it…
