In my humble opinion, Valentine’s Day is not just for those who are coupled up. Valentine’s day is all about ‘the love’. So, what better opportunity to celebrate what or who ever it is you love most in the world! But none of that stereotypical hearts and flowers malarkey, mind. Oh no! I have 10 alternative ideas for celebrating Valentine’s day, coupled up or not!
Here they are!
Got a dog? Then I bet you love them most in the world! Loyal, affectionate, doesn’t answer back… Why not treat them to a doggy friendly day trip?
A dog friendly, beach, park, woodland or national trust property is the perfect place for some quality time with your pooch! Check out dogfriendlybritain to find the perfect spot!
2) Recreate your first date.
There’s nothing like a trip down memory lane to remind you of what ignited that first spark. Don’t forget your rose-tinted glasses!
3) DIY Spa Day
Got a tribe of little people? What says love and romance more than your other half dealing with the insanity that is dinner and bedtime! Get yourself one bath tray things, that holds your wine glass and Ipad, like this.
Hot bubble bath, lush bath bombs, smelly candle, wine, Netflix, a book, maybe some chocolate… Is a face mask too much? Sounds like total bliss to me!! You’ll be so chilled out he might even get a bit!
4) Comedy Club
Don’t want to conform to cheesy romantic ideals on Valentine’s Day? Then get thee to a comedy club! With your other half, your pals… A meal, few beers and some giggles. The only thing cheesy about this might be the jokes… (Thank you, I’m here all week!!) Find a venue here
5) Be a Tourist
Every town has some kind of ‘attraction’ that ‘locals’ generally have never been to, they are usually brilliantly awful. Make Valentines Day, the day you give it a go! I’m originally from just outside of Brighton… I’ve never been to The Royal Pavillion… (To be fair I reckon the Pavillion is probably quite nice and not brilliantly awful. Not like this Gnome Reserve in Devon… I was hysterical by the time I left, in a good way mind!) For ideas in your home time look here.
6) Video Gaming with a Twist
Bit of a gaming geek? Do you love gaming more than anything else? Then The National Videogame Arcade in Nottingham is the place for you! The NVA is the home of videogames, and it has a toast bar! Gaming, toast and beer… I’m sorry but, what’s not to love?
7) Adrenaline Rush
As a teenager Valentine’s Day was all about the rush of adrenaline and anticipation of getting a card or the reaction to a card. How about recreating that feeling of tension through the experience of sky diving but without the whole jumping out of a plane business? Well you can at iFly World an indoor sky diving venue. All without the embarrassment of a little fear induced accident!
8) Family Game/DVD night.
Takeaway, snacks and fights over what to play/watch/who won! Nothing says love quite like sibling disagreement and parents refereeing! Remember it’s meant to be fun!
9) Sleep over in The Natural History Museum
I’m sorry but I would be so excited about this that I think I would have bladder issues… A whole night in the museum… Just like the film!! Argh!! For more info head to www.nhm.ac.uk
I was going to put go-karting down for number 10. I love it, great fun! Then I discovered that Ice Karting is an actual thing. And you can go bowling. And you can have dinner. Amazeballs. Available at this venue in London!
